Huge home library wall – A beautiful message

I first published this post in 2017 at our previous home. I loved this project so much that I did it a second time! Today, I want to share how I scaled the project in our new home.

I used frames and photos from our previous project, done before we became parents. Our gallery wall is mostly old family photos interspersed with current photos of our lives now.

These first two images are of our new home (current home) and the gallery wall is twice the size of our first project.

Below you’ll be able to watch tutorials and videos I made in 2017, which still apply today. I used the same framework, same printer and same method to create this gallery wall.

This post is in partnership with Canon USA. I used my PIXMA TS9521C printer to print family commemorative black and white photos. The printer produces really powerful black and white images and I always choose Canon Luster paper for these types of photos.

I resized all my photos to 8″ x 8″ to fit these matching frames. I used 24 frames in four rows of six. I think what makes this gallery wall really stand out is that all the frames are the same size and all the photos are in black and white.

The gallery wall is a mix of family memories from my parents’ childhood, recent photos and pictures of Jeremy and me when we were kids.

You know I love a good thing before and after the moment…

This is the original before and after. When we first moved in, the hallways (and almost every room) were carpeted in blue. It’s hard to tell in these photos, but the walls are also powder blue.

We live on an l-shaped farmand the hallway curves around and there are every bedroom in the house (as well as a few bathrooms and laundry room) along this long hallway.

These photos have completely changed the feel of our hallways. I tend to shy away from large family photos in the house. We don’t even have any wedding photos out, and only a few snaps in the frame.

I think a lot of people do it this way because, it feels so awkward to hang a bunch of pictures of yourself on your own wall! Haha!

But doing this project is very meaningful and comforting to me! Yes, it has a couple of wedding photos, but it also has dozens of other memories. And when they’re all put together, it’s just magic.

If this post inspires one of you to dig up a box of your old family photos and make a similar wall, I’d be VERY HAPPY. This is one of the most meaningful DIY projects I’ve ever done. I just keep stopping to look back at all of our memories and feel so happy.

Bottom line: While I’ve talked a lot about how we need to delete photos from our phones, we also need to find a way to use those old photo boxes hidden in the attic. They are filled with the best, most special memories.
