Huge anti-government protests engulfed Tel Aviv
Tens of thousands of Israelis protested in Tel Aviv demanding a ceasefire in Gaza and the return of hostages held by Hamas.
Organizers said it was the largest anti-government protest since the war in Gaza began. Video showed scuffles and multiple arrests as police – some on horseback – tried to clear protesters from the city’s main highway.
The protests have become weekly events and protesters also want new elections. Relatives of the hostages were among the protesters – about 120 hostages remain held in Gaza, some of them dead.
Hamas and its allies seized them when they attacked southern Israel on October 7, killing about 1,200 people – mostly civilians.
Gaza health authorities said Israel’s devastating attack killed more than 37,400 people.
