Howard University partners with Jordan Brand under a 20-year agreement

Howard University’s athletic program is jumping ship with their apparel contract. Howard announced Thursday that the school has signed a 20-year contract with Jordan Brands.

Jordan will provide uniforms, shoes and other equipment for Bison’s athletic programs. They will also be dressed in Howard’s iconic marching band. The first Jumpman uniform will debut on August 27 when the soccer team plays Alabama A&M in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge in Atlanta.

Howard’s athletic programs have been carried out by Under Armor since 2016. That deal expired this summer. Bison became the first black college and university in I’s history to join Jordan since North Carolina A&T did so in the early days of the brand back in 1997.

Jordan will seek to enhance Howard’s presence by recruiting and “inspiring a new generation of excellence.”

Jordan continues to strengthen its presence in the Washington, DC area. The brand has an apparel contract with Georgetown University. It also has shoe deals with Washington Wizards players Bradley Beal and Rui Hachimura.

As part of the deal, Jordan pledged $100 million to the Black community to help “advance the work of organizations fighting to create systemic change.”

Jordan’s current college list includes Michael Jordan’s alma mater North Carolina, UCLA, Michigan, Marquette, Morehouse, San Diego State, Houston, Oklahoma, Georgetown and Florida along with Howard.
