How Xiaomi, Realme and Oppo helped the tablet market grow

According to the latest report from the International Data Center (IDC), worldwide tablet shipments reached 40.5 million units in Q2 2022, witnessing a small growth of 0. 15% over the same period last year. Apple continued to lead the way, with 12.6 million units shipped last quarter and a market share of 31%.
Despite the geopolitical issues, inflation and strict embargo restrictions going on in China, the tablet market is still doing quite well. The unabated performance of the tablet segment can be attributed to continued demand for tablets as a cheaper alternative to PCs. Furthermore, promotional events like the ‘618-day sale’ in China and Amazon’s Official Day in the US supported sales last quarter.
While Apple continues to lead the way, low-cost tablet makers, especially China’s Oppo, Xiaomi and Myself, can make an impact on the market. “Many leading companies have done a great job with their distribution strategies and are able to fully supply tablets for a number of educational projects. Meanwhile, Realme also entered the space with the Realme Pad last year and has launched two new tablets – the Realme Pad Mini and Realme Pad X – since then. Currently, Oppo also has tablets in its portfolio – Oppo Pad and Oppo Pad Air – with the new tablet recently launched in India.
The magic of Apple iPad continues
Apple, which topped last year’s rankings, still holds its ground with a 31% market share. The Cupertino giant shipped 12.6 million units, down 2.89% year-on-year. Meanwhile, SAMSUNG shipped 7.3 million units last quarter, accounting for 18.1% of the market share, but it posted year-over-year growth of 10.36%.
Amazon has the strongest growth
Amazon was the only manufacturer to achieve growth in the second quarter and climb to third place. The company shipped 5.5 million Kindles in the second quarter, capturing a 13.6% market share. Meanwhile, with market shares of 8.7% and 5.3%, Lenovo and Huawei shipped 5.5 million and 3.5 million units, respectively.
