Microsoft testing new badges that will alert Xbox users about any games they can’t play or won’t currently launch. According to a report by The Verge, Xbox officials Eden Marie shared a post on Twitter explaining how the feature works. According to the report, users may have trouble finding games they can currently play when scrolling through the Xbox library. How This Upcoming Xbox Feature Will Work
According to the tweet shared by Marie, this new feature will add two on-screen badges where users can find games – available on the home screen or the game library. This feature will show the user an exclamation mark on the game thumbnail if the game is unplayable due to licensing issues. These problems tend to appear when a game is taken out of Game Pass or if the user is not logged in Xbox Live account associated with the game. On the other hand, if the player needs to insert a disc before playing the game, the thumbnail will show a crossed out disc icon. Marie even stated that for now the feature is only available to people in the Xbox Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead Insider groups, which Microsoft says is usually “invitations only”.
Importance of the new Xbox feature
The report claims that the feature can be useful because it will notify users of games they can play. This will also help prevent users from finding a game in the library and wanting to play it, but encountering a “not helpful” error message, the report suggests.
Meanwhile, when asked about the clarity of these error messages, Marie replied that the team will “continue to try and improve the error messages that appear when a game fails to launch so specifically and clearer.” Furthermore, she added, “some new types of bugs are included in this test, but others (like correctly recognizing that a game has left the Game Pass) will require more work in upcoming releases.”
Furthermore, when another Twitter user commented asking for buttons to allow users to remove content they can no longer play from their library, Marie mentioned that more improvements will be added in the coming days. days to come and the icons currently being tested are a “necessary first step.” The report also shows that today, “debt a game” has become much different than it was years ago and the console makers addressing some of the confusion players may face is a necessary step forward.
