A 17-year-old boy accused of bragging about his criminal activities on Instagram, as well as about associating with a jailed gangster to instill fear, has been arrested by police. in connection with at least four cases in Delhi, police said on Friday.
Officials say the boy, just 18 years old for a few days, was the head of a gang involved in shootings and robberies in northeast Delhi. This gang used to open fire on innocent people for no reason to assert their dominance in the area and to attract the attention of the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang. Police officials said one gang member bragged about having contact with a member of the Bishnoi gang. A leading Delhi gangster, Lawrence Bishnoi is involved in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.
Officials added that by revealing the identity of the person he intended to kill, the boy was also trying to defy the police, saying he was influenced by actor Vivek Oberoi’s character in the action film. Shootout at Lokhandwala 2007 horror action about scary gangster Maya Dolas.
The gang used Instagram IDs like 302 and 307, which are sections for murder and attempted murder under the Indian Penal Code.
The boy was caught by the police as he was about to kill someone he mentioned in his Instagram Live two days ago. Police said the gang planned to shoot the man down because he had hit one of them recently and had filmed the action.
A resident of Ghaziabad’s Loni who dropped out of school after 7th grade, the boy was once arrested in connection with a murder in November 2021, but was released later that year after the case was handled by the Commission. Juvenile Justice, police officials said.
After his release, the boy formed a gang with two other teenage boys and continued his criminal activities.
He was also involved in a gunfight with the police.
