There’s nothing like the panic that happens after scanning an email, hitting send, and your brain only sees that typo after you release your hand from the cursor. Do you send a follow-up letter apologizing or will that just bring attention to the error?

I often crossed my arms hoping that if my brain ran through the missing “the” in a sentence, so did the will of the recipient — that is, until I discovered that I could take advantage of the Outlook’s “Undo Send” feature on your Mac.

While Mac users cannot Completely revoke or completely replace Outlook email, enabling the “Undo Send” feature will have a 10-second grace period. That means in 10 seconds after hitting “Send” you have the option to run the intervention, completely edit your email, and send it without the initial draft going to another inbox.

Sounds like the recovery option you need? Here’s how to set up “Undo Send” for Outlook on Mac.

How to unsend Outlook emails on Mac

At the top of your mailbox, go to the Settings (gear) icon and select the “View all Outlook Settings” option.

When you see the settings options menu, select the “Compose and reply” tab. Scroll to find the “Undo Send” option.

In the “Undo Send” tab, move the track on the line to adjust how long you want to be able to undo a message.

Now, press “Save.” If you find yourself making occasional typos or mistakes, it’s best to set the meter to maximum (10 seconds) — I personally need all the kindness I can get.

As a test, you can email a friend or yourself to see how long the grace period actually lasts.

If you don’t want to send the message, select “Undo” and the email will reappear as an unsent draft.

Frequently asked questions

Can you recall Outlook email on a Mac?

While you can’t completely recall an email in Mac like you can on PC, you can enable a 10-second modification grace period known as the “Undo Send” feature. However, as shown in the images above, you can enable the “Undo Send” option by going to Setting > View all Outlook Settings > Compose and reply > undo send > Set the number of seconds you have to undo > Saving.

Can I “Undo Send” an email I sent an hour ago?

Unfortunately there isn’t. The “Undo Send” feature only works for up to 10 seconds before you can prevent your unedited email from sliding into your inbox. Usually, this means you have to sit and watch the email as it goes out. So don’t be too loose when writing drafts. Be sure to take your time and have a look, use the “Undo Send” feature only for what it was meant to be: The grace period.

Can I delete sent email in Outlook?

Outlook allows PC users to call back or resend emails. Mac users can enable the “Undo Send” feature to stop erroneous emails before it’s turned off.
