How to make glitter shoes!
If you’re a lover of all things glitter, the thought of sparkly shoes will probably make your heart beat a little faster. You can take out some flour to make a pair like this or this, but did you know that you can also make your own glitter shoes or boots at home?
There are many ways to get this look, but here’s what I did…
Munition:
Are there any shoe materials best suited for this glittery DIY?
- While there are plenty of fabrics that can do this, our favorites would be suede or dull leather/imitation leather that isn’t too shiny (like these boots or these shoes). Cloth shoes should also be used!
What type of glue is best for this project?
- We have found that Fabric glue or Adhesive works best for this type of project as it is made to bond to items like metal and fabric. For example, glue primarily intended for paper would not be a good choice.
Can I use biodegradable glitter?
- You will be able to use biodegradable glitter for this project (like this or this). Since DIY glitter shoes may not be something you’ll be hiking or wearing during monsoons, it’s a good idea to stick to biodegradable glitter shoes as long as you keep them free. harsh elements.
If you want a glittery look in less time…
Try adding a metallic sheen to just one part of the shoe like the heel or toe. You can cut the part where you want to add sparkle painter’s tape / mask and wrap the rest of the shoe in a plastic bag to keep it sparkling.
Then, apply glitter on the part you want to highlight. It’s less messy and takes less time, but you’ll still get that sparkling highlight on your shoes.
How to apply glitter?
All you have to do is use a small paintbrush to apply a thick layer of glue to part of the shoes and cover them with glitter (pour them on a piece of paper).
Let that part dry, and then do more and more parts until your shoes are completely sparkling!
After you’ve worn them a few times, you may have to tweak them for more sparkle. It really depends on the shoes and how much they flex as you walk! Beware, sparkly shoes are pretty messy.
You can also do this in a plastic container or box lid to try and keep it contained. You’ll find sparkles everywhere in a week or two, but I think it’s worth it!
You can apply multiple layers of glitter to cover 1000% of the item, but this also helps to give the soles a similar color, so if you have some small gaps you won’t really notice.
Do I need to seal glitter?
You don’t have to “glue” the glitter, but it will help the item wear better and last longer (much less shedding) if you add one or two coats like this when your glue has dried. It will be white, but dries out very visibly so you’ll still get the full glitter effect when it dries.
Give advice:
It can be difficult to get the details perfect, like getting around the laces if you have some, or taking the tongue of the shoe and creating clean edges.
Take your time and once you’ve finished the whole shoe and are dry, go back and fix up any details you left out for more glitter! It took a bit of time, but I completed several pairs in one evening.
Can I add sparkles to other items?
It’s correct! You can add sparkle this way with other accessories like hairpins or purses.
Just watch out for heavily handled items as these homemade glitters are often more fragile, so make sure the purse has another area where you normally hold or a strap or something to keep. you don’t always assign glitter area to make it last longer.
Here’s an all-over sparkly shoe that Elsie made for our friend Stacy a few years ago. How cute are those?! Maximum sparkle chance. What do you think: Are you a sparkler now?! so so. Elsie and Laura
