How to enable ‘black and white mode’ on iPhone 14 Pro’s always-on display

Apple deploys always show above iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max slightly different from what we have seen on Android smartphone. Instead of a completely dark display like on Android smartphones, the always-on display on the iPhone 14 Pro has an ‘always on’ style, nothing more than a dim lock screen. However, there is a hidden setting to enable always-on display just like Android on iPhone 14 Pro.
First spotted by 9to5Mac, the trick to get Android-like always black and white screen on iPhone 14 is hidden under Focus mode, called “Blurry lock screen“has been in iOS for a while, two years to be exact since the introduction of Focus in iOS 15.
“Dim lock screen” dims the lock screen when enabled. However, on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, it also darkens the always-on display, making it appear in black and white, similar to how the always-on display appears on Android smartphones.
How to enable black and white always on screen on iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
Open Settings, then tap Spotlight. Select any of the Focus modes – Do Not Disturb, Personal, Sleep or Work – and select Preferences. Now, enable “Fluid lock screen”.
Now the ‘always on’ screen on your iPhone 14 Pro will appear darker in black and white. However, it is imperative that you enable Specific Focus mode.
When enabled, the date, time, and widgets will display in white, while the rest of the screen will be blacked out, just like how it works on Android.
Opinion seems divided about the iPhone’s always-on display, while like the iPhone’s, many find it distracting. It’s a great trick to get the screen to stay completely dark on the iPhone 14, but it’s not the solution.
