Winter is fast approaching and many of us are looking forward to the months ahead. This is the time of year when we usually get together and hang out with friends and family during the festive season. We spend more time indoors, as the weather turns more extreme, with colder temperatures, rain, sleet, sleet and snow. Therefore, it is not surprising that many of us want to make our homes as comfortable as possible at this time of year. Creating a cozy atmosphere can help you settle in, feel warm and comfortable, and truly immerse yourself in your space. Here are some steps you can take to achieve this!

The most important area to focus on to help your home feel cozy in the coming months is making sure it feels warm. Certainly, this is easier said than done during the cost of living crisis, where energy prices have risen dramatically. But you can take steps to help with this. Check your boiler to make sure it’s in good shape. Make sure your home is well insulated with double glazing and insulated roofs. You can invest in cushion and throw to retain heat where you’re sitting or carpet to warm hardwood floors. You may even want to go above and beyond and consider different forms of underfloor heating.

Scent can play a big role in perceiving any space. Scents can create memories, give you a pleasant smell to enjoy while you’re relaxing at home, or even evoke emotions about certain occasions or times of the year. Think of how many Christmas scented candles there are – even though the Christmas tree itself doesn’t really have a “scent”. Consider investing in scented candles and home diffuser to fill your space with the smells you love. Whether it’s something neutral like clean laundry or linen, or something more festive, like cinnamon or mulled wine.

Lighting also plays an important role in creating coziness in your home. While it’s important to have a good, bright light as the main light of your room, you won’t want to leave it on when evening rolls around. Instead, consider lamps that emit a warm light. This can be much more tolerable than harsh light. As Christmas approaches, you can also add fairy lights and other decorative lights on your tree or around other areas of your home. Dimming options are also ideal, as these give you more control over the lighting in your space. If you want a dim and warm light, you can also consider candles. Just be sure to be extra careful about fire safety when using these. If you have children or pets, flameless candle with false flames tends to be a much safer and preferable option.

Hopefully some of the above information will help you create a truly cozy atmosphere in your home!
