How the first report from Belsen concentration camp shocked the world
In April 1945, BBC reporter Richard Dimbleby was the first to enter the liberated Belsen concentration camp.
His report describes the unimaginable horror he found, being the first time many listeners heard the bleak truth about what life and death was like under Nazi Germany.
About 70,000 people died in the Bergen-Belsen camp.
Broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby told Witness History how his father broke the recording of the report and why the BBC was initially reluctant to broadcast it.
Historical Witness: The stories of our times are told by the people there.
