With the release iOS 16 and WatchOS 9Apple added a bunch of new features to the iPhone and Apple Watch same. The iPhone has features like the ability edit or delete iMessageswhile Apple Watch got better fitness tools and what’s shaping up to be my favorite addition to the Apple Watch – the new Low Power Mode.

The iPhone has had a similar mode for years that, when enabled, limits certain aspects of your phone’s performance in order to save every last bit of battery life to extend its life before you need to charge it. again.

Low Power Mode is a cool feature to have on an iPhone, but it’s even better to have on something like the Apple Watch, which has a small battery and usually lasts for a day.

Also: Ultra is the Apple Watch I’ve always wanted, or I think

Below, I’ll dive into what happens to your Apple Watch when you turn on Low Power Mode and outline the steps you need to take to turn it on.

What happens when you turn on Low Power Mode on your Apple Watch

To save battery and ensure that your Apple Watch lasts until you get a charger, Low Power Mode turns off some features.

According to AppleThese are the features that are disabled when you enable Low Power Mode:

  • Always on display
  • Heart rate notification for irregular heart rate, high heart rate and low heart rate
  • Background heart rate measurement
  • Background blood oxygen measurements
  • Start workout reminder

But that’s not all. Low Power Mode also turns off Wi-Fi and cellular connections, along with turning off calls and notifications when your iPhone isn’t nearby. To be clear, however, that doesn’t mean you don’t have access to data, notifications, or phone calls.

If your iPhone isn’t nearby and you open an app that needs data, your Apple Watch will temporarily re-enable the connection to retrieve data and then turn it off when you’re done. For alerts and notifications, Apple Watch periodically retrieves any new alerts and displays them on the watch.

Review: The Apple Watch 8 is a nasty blow, even if it doesn’t match Samsung’s sensor

You’re not completely cut off from the outside world, but just don’t expect any communication to be in real time.

What about workout tracking in Low Power Mode?

Well, it can happen, and in fact, you don’t really notice a difference in the collected data. In fact, you can automatically turn on Low Power Mode at the start of your workout to help conserve battery life.

When your Apple Watch’s battery reaches 10%, you’ll get a warning on the watch asking if you want to enable Low Power Mode, but you can turn it on whenever you want.

How to enable Low Power Mode on Apple Watch

Swipe up from the bottom of the Apple Watch screen to see the Control Center. Find the battery percentage box and tap it.

At the bottom of the screen is a switch to enable Low Power Mode – tap the switch to slide it to the On position. Another screen will pop up, explaining what Low Power Mode is and giving you the following options: Enable, Enable for… and Dismiss.

Option Turn on if you want to turn it on immediately and have it turn off automatically when your watch is charged to 80% the next time. Option Turn on for… if you want to enable Low Power Mode for one, two or three days.

You can easily check if Low Power Mode is enabled: There will be a yellow circle at the top of the watch face, the battery percentage turns yellow in Control Center, and the charging circle when The watch that is charging will be yellow instead of green .
