Missouri City police began searching for the suspect shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday after discovering a stolen vehicle at a local Texaco gas station.

Officers, who believe the vehicle was involved in a serious robbery on Friday, began chasing the vehicle and attempting to pull over, but the suspect refused to stop. Houston police were called to assist.

The driver eventually stopped at a house in the 15500 block of Corsair Street in Houston, got out of the car and started running between the houses, heading out into the backyard, KHOU reported.

The police tried to reach him and he then opened fire on two officers, wounding Sepulveda. She was taken to Memorial Hermann Medical Center Texas and is currently in the hospital with her family and friends.

Police cordoned off the neighborhood and located the suspect who Houston Police Chief Troy Finnier told KPRC ‘was armed with two automatic pistols with an extended magazine.’

“That’s what we are facing and people need to know that,” the chief added.

The suspect began firing again, prompting officers to return fire. He was taken to Ben Taub hospital, where he died from his injuries.

His identity has been kept under wraps at this time, however police revealed he is believed to be between the ages of 25 and 30.

Carolyn Smith, who claims the encounter happened outside her home, is grateful that no stray bullets entered her home during the gunfight.

‘The bullets didn’t enter the house. Ammo could have entered the house,” she told FOX 26. The car may have crashed through the window, so I feel much better knowing God protected my son who was here last night. “

Smith, shaken by the situation, was also grateful to learn that Sepulveda, a three-year veteran with the Missouri City police, had survived the attack.

“Before I got home, I thought she was gone,” she said. ‘And I think that let me down mainly because when you have family members doing the same job it makes you feel bad, but when I heard she was okay, I feel so much better.’

No other officers were injured in the shooting.

Sheriff Finner said two Houston police officers, a Fort Bend County sheriff’s deputy and a Texas Department of Public Safety officer were all implicated in the suspect.

All agencies will conduct independent investigations into the shooting and the role of their officials in the shooting.

Meanwhile, the Missouri City Police Officers Association – Police Corps has created a fundraiser to help cover Sepulveda’s medical expenses.

As of Sunday afternoon, it had exceeded its goal of $15,000 in donations.
