House adopts the right to contraception Act that guarantees access to contraception by protecting the right to use and buy it without restrictions

The House of Representatives gave an additional response to Roe v. Wade’s recent overturn — and this time it involved contraceptive rights. Earlier today, the House officially adopted Contraception Rights Acta new bill guarantees the right to birth control and other contraceptives.

@HuffPost reports, introduced by Congressman Kathy Manning (D-North Carolina,) Contraceptive Rights Act helps access birth control federal law by creating a statutory right for everyone to obtain and use contraceptives, as well as ensuring protections for doctors providing contraception to patients.

In addition, the Contraception Act defines contraception as “any action taken to prevent pregnancy, including the use of contraceptives or methods based on the perception of reproduction and sterilization procedures”. Meanwhile, underneath the bill, the Justice Department has the power to bring civil action against any federal or state official who tries to restrict access to birth control, and it allows those affected to capable of taking legal action against individuals attempting to enforce restrictions.

However, passage of the bill was not unanimous, as 195 Republicans voted against it, in a final vote between 228 and 195. Republicans voted against the bill. including Matt Gaetz, Paul Gosar, Jack Bergman and Joe Wilson.

Speaking about the law being passed and Republicans who voted against it, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said “It’s clear that their efforts to turn back the clock on contraception are once again another in their radical agenda towards American women.”
