Hospital moves patients as Israeli tanks surround Jabalia camp

Amid Israeli gunfire and shelling, Palestinian doctors said they had begun moving premature babies and other patients from Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Jabalia refugee camp, as troops and tanks surrounded them. It.

The Israeli army launched its third ground offensive in the area since the war in Gaza began, saying it was targeting the regrouping of Hamas militants with the aim of carrying out attacks. .

Two other local hospitals were virtually inaccessible and faced evacuation orders, Gazan health officials said.

Dozens of people are believed to have been killed and injured in the North in recent days.

The Hamas-run Civil Defense said on Monday that its first responders found the bodies of 15 people after an Israeli attack on a tent camp for displaced persons next to the Hospital. al-Yemen al-Saeed.

It also said five people were killed in a strike on a family home in the camp, which had more than 110,000 registered residents before the war.

Meanwhile, the head of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) warned that the organization’s shelters and services are being forced to close.

“With almost no basic supplies, hunger is spreading and deepening,” said Philippe Lazzarini, adding that the second phase of the polio vaccination campaign for children in Gaza also threatened.

Residents spoke to the BBC about their fear and despair.

“I have had to relocate more than 10 times. I moved from house to house, from school to school, under artillery fire and from street to street,” said Ahmed Leki, a 50-year-old father from the Falluja region of Jabalia.

“We are exhausted, completely exhausted. There is nothing left. Where can we go? We have small children and there is no safe place in Gaza, not a single centimeter of safety,” he added.

“We left our homes with artillery shells raining down on us, with bombs, destruction and fragmentation all around us. Enough is enough.”

In recent days, the Israeli military issued new evacuation orders for a large area in the north of the enclave, including Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia and parts of Gaza City.

All those remaining in the north – estimated at 400,000 people – were ordered to move south.

“The relocation was extremely difficult, a tragedy. No means of transportation, no need to survive. Men, women and children all asked, ‘Where are we going?’ and the answer is ‘I don’t know,'” said Bilal al-Amreeti, a local man.

“The sounds of Israeli warplanes were heard above us, there was bombing and shelling continuing everywhere.”

Despite Israel’s assurances, many Gazans fear that the country aims to depopulate the northern strip and turn it into a closed military zone or Jewish settlement.
