Horse racing festival ‘We Are NY’ held in the lobby

Albany, NY – We Are NY Horse Racing held its first Lobby Day Thursday to educate lawmakers about the importance of horse racing to the New York State economy. Dozens of stakeholders from a variety of organizations, nonprofits and labor unions have joined together to educate lawmakers about a sport that fuels an industry that creates 19,000 jobs and over 3 billion annual economic impact dollars.

“Equestrian sport has given me the opportunity to enter an industry that really supports me,” says gymnast Francisco Eduardo Barrera Torres. “Since I started my career at Belmont Park in 2007, I have been part of something greater. The sport has given me a great sense of pride because I was able to provide for my family and send my children to school. I’m excited to be a part of We Are NY Horse Racing’s effort because together we must protect jobs and wages that sustain families. ”

Lobby Day comes as We Are NY Horse Racing rolls out paid advertising on both digital and television to highlight the sport’s positive economic impacts. Since its launch in September, the We Are NY Equestrian Alliance has rapidly grown to now include nearly 50 member organizations. We Are NY Horse Racing is a diverse group of small businesses, labor unions, nonprofits, trade organizations and community groups working to advocate on behalf of 19,000 women and men are working in and around the sport.
