Hormone injection could be the cure for men and women with low sex drives, new study reveals | UK News

A new study suggests that hormone injections could be the solution for men and women with low sex drive.

Kisspeptin can be used to treat people suffering from low sex drive by stimulating the release of other reproductive hormones in the body.

Two new studies show that natural hormones promote sexual responses in women and men with sexual desire disorder (HSDD).

HSDD is a condition characterized by low libido, which can have devastating psychological and social effects on the individual.

It is thought to affect 10% of women and 8% of men worldwide.

Dr Alexander Comninos of Imperial College London, said: “Low libido can be distressing and therefore lead to HSDD.

“This can have a major adverse impact on relationships, mental health and fertility.”

Commenting on the lack of treatments currently on the market, he says women have few options that “have significant side effects” and are “harmful to try” in some cases.

He added: “Unfortunately, these treatments have limited effectiveness.

“In men, there are currently no licensed treatments and no treatments available.”

Groundbreaking Imperial research provides evidence that kisspeptin is a “safe and effective therapy” for both men and women with low sex drive.

The hormone improved the brain’s ability to process sex in both sexes compared to a placebo.

It may also help increase attractiveness, independent of other reproductive hormones such as testosterone.

No side effects were reported from any of the 64 participants – key to drug development.

The researchers are planning next to test hormones in sexual problems of psychological origin, such as unexplained low sex drive.

‘The week I had Kisspeptin, we conceived a boy’

A 44-year-old unnamed man decided to take part in the trial because he had previously had problems with libido.

He said: “This problem has always been detrimental to maintaining relationships. I often make excuses as to why my libido is low.

“For example, I blame work stress or fatigue as the reason instead of being honest. I’ve tried other performance-enhancing drugs like Viagra.”

He says this is useless as the problem is his low libido.

He feels embarrassed and unable to share his feelings with his partner, fearing that they will mistake it for a lack of attraction to them.

Peter said: “I would love to know if there is a solution to my problem and learn more about my condition.

“I was given an infusion of Kisspeptin in June 2021 and I noticed a difference in my sex drive.

“The week I infused Kisspeptin, we conceived our son, who was born in March 2022. I had the best results possible thanks to the trial.

“I also learned a lot about myself and my condition. I’m really glad I contributed to this experiment, which changed my life.”
