Honkai: Star Rail confirms April 26 release date
Honkai: Star Railway was suggested on April 26 release date for months, but now it’s official. The free, turn-based Genshin Impact spinoff will be available for pre-download from April 23, and will be available through its official website and the Epic Games Store on April 26. A presentation was released. Online yesterday also revealed its first two banners.
Here’s the full presentation, in Chinese (except with some English dubs) but with English subtitles:
Like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail is a gacha game, which means they expect you to invest time and money to unlock an ever-growing roster of characters to fight in battle. Some of those characters are accessed through time-limited “banners”, the first two being for Star Rail which will give players the chance to unlock five-star characters Seele and Jing Yuan. (Our own) Honkai Star Rail Level List set these characters as class A and class B respectively.)
When not trying to unlock characters, Honkai: Star Rail is about riding an interstellar train through space, visiting various sci-fi worlds, and engaging in turn-based battles. That makes it significantly different from Genshin Impact, which has real-time combat (and Zelda-like climbing and sliding) or even a similar real-time Honkai Impact 3. Despite the change of genre, Ed found Star Rail has an energy very similar to Genshin Impact when he played the closed beta last month.
I’m happy with Genshin Impact, the game has a beautiful world to explore and is generous enough as a free game that I never felt the need to spend money on it. I’m looking forward to trying out Star Rail when it comes out. If you are interested, you can Pre-register for access through the official websiteor I guess heading to Epic Games store page and hit refresh a lot.
