Hollywood Wanted a Dog Instead of Vincent Gallo. Serious

“Shut In” was not always produced on the Daily Wire.

Once upon a time, New Line Cinema tapped Jason Bateman of “Ozark” fame to direct the heartthrob thriller. Then COVID-19 closes the movie and the rest of the world shuts down.

Dallas Sonnier, the sub-producer behind beloved films like “Bone Tomahawk,” said his time setting up the film in the studio system has proven exhausting. The producers wanted to take one of the film’s greatest assets, the villain Sammy (Vincent Gallo), and replace him with a Cujo-style dog to make the film sound like “room features.” revenue” more.

It’s not hard to see how this decision will affect the film. Drug addict Sammy plays our main character played by Rainey Qualley. She’s an addicted ex-mom trapped in the pantry of a house in the middle of nowhere while her ex-boyfriend and Sammy go on the run.

“No one can be as scary as [Gallo] will take on that role,” Sonnier told the “Man of Science, Man of Faith” podcast about Gallo, an actor he had previously met while casting “Bone Tomahawk.” The “Brown Bunny” filmmaker almost landed the small but memorable role of David Arquette in the horror western.

Gallo prepared for “Shut In” in seven days by removing a healthy tooth and preparing a concrete wardrobe.

Sonnier revealed the actor showed up the day before filming was “fully immersed in the character”, although he broke a few times on set to show how “wonderful” the experience was, and praised his young co-star (Qualley) as “charming”.

Sonnier also made sure that when “Shut In” stars the likes of Gallo and Ben Shapiro, he won’t forget the origin of the story. Screenwriter Melanie Toast’s “Shut In” was previously a hot ticket on the Hollywood Black List.

The dedication to “pure realism” in art is part of what has made Sonnier stand out with his genre paintings over the years. It becomes the secret sauce made Daily Wire’s foray into film stand apart from other conservative filmmaking projects.

Instead of delivering a tailored agenda or serving only a small audience, the Daily Wire placed its trust in Sonnier to deliver politically incorrect, challenging content with messages that were not meant to be. overwhelmed audiences (unlike most of this year’s Best Picture Oscar nominations).

“They wanted to push boundaries,” Sonnier said of the Daily Wire, adding that the real mission with “Shut In,” “Run Hide Fight” and their upcoming project team is to entertain audiences who “feel feel completely left behind by Hollywood. ”

Silent“Could be perfect for that segment of the movie-going public. It is a tight and engaging thriller with a main focus on plot and characters. If that doesn’t sell you, it’s well worth it for Gallo to return to the screen after nearly 10 years as a sneakerhead, mocking Sammy with words.

Just think: you almost have a replacement dog.
