The opening sequence will feature child actors Taylor Henderson, Juju Journey Brener and Nina Kitchen as younger versions of Winifred, Sarah and Mary.

The film will also feature young Billy Butcherson (Doug Jones), years before he became Winifred’s love interest.

‘The opening of the movie, we have some history about our witch and Billy. We get a little kiss – pardon the pun – on the Billy side of it and the world they live in and what happened to the witches,’ Fletcher began.

‘I always miss that the first time around. Like, what are the witches in their way? I had that question, and the script came out, and I loved the 1600s opening,’ she said.

She added that she ‘pushed’ the opening ‘a little bit more’, so she could introduce the concept that, ‘the 1600s and now are the same. There’s no difference. ‘

‘I just wanted to poke fun at the irony of it. But, in the joy of the movie, you get to see the younger version of them and have a great time and get to know what and why what happened to them,’ Fletcher added.

Fletcher also added that there will be, ‘some wonderful mythological surprises’ for the sisters, while confirming, ‘they weren’t witches at first.’

The opening sequence introducing their origins will also reflect the three modern-day teenagers in Salem, played by Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo and Lilia Buckingham, who eventually bring the sisters back to life.

‘We give each girl not only the same color in our witch’s veins – Becca (Peak) is Winnie, Izzy (Escobedo) is Mary, and Cassie (Buckinham) is Sarah – but her hairstyle they are the same,’ added Fletcher.

‘It’s a modern twist on it. That’s the intention to play it successfully. Ultimately, the film is about sisterhood, which is about sticking together through the thick and thin, and being there for each other,’ Fletcher added.

It was also confirmed that later younger actors from the original film – Omri Katz, Vinessa Shaw, Thora Birch, Larry Bagby, Tobias Jelinek and Jason Marsden – would not be returning for the sequel.

New additional cast members include Sam Richardson, Tony Hale, Hannah Waddingham, and RuPaul’s Drag Race alums Kahmora Hall, Ginger Minj, and Kornbread Jete.
