Besides that, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit also hit back at Sarma and said that he voted for Shashi Tharoor in the recent party president election just to make sure that people like him don’t get promoted in Parliament. .

Tharoor is competing with senior party colleague Mallikarjun Kharge for the position of party chairman. Kharge overtook Tharoor to become the first non-Gandhi National Assembly speaker in 24 years.
Kharge received 7,897 votes in the presidential election to Tharoorof 1,072 in the October 17 polls. He was elected president of the National Assembly on October 19.
Shortly after his poll victory, Kharge said the party presented an “example of strengthening the country’s democracy by holding organized elections” at a time when “democracy under threat” in the country.
