Himachal Pradesh: Landslide hits Kullu, blocks Manali-Leh national highway | Shimla News
SHIMLA: The Manali-Leh Highway at Kainchi Morh (Nehru Kund) in Kullu District has been closed since Tuesday night after a landslide hit the area.
Traffic on both sides of the slide was congested and the two sides had to wait in long lines.
According to information received from Manali traffic police, light vehicles are being diverted through Palchan from Manali and Leh.
The landslide occurred in Nehru Kund at 9pm on Tuesday as the Manali-Leh road was closed.
The Borders Organization (BRO) is engaged in road restoration. Heavy vehicles traveling from Leh side and Lahaul side are stopped at Palchan, while heavy vehicles traveling from Manali side are stopped at Bahang.
The Manali government stepped in as soon as it received information about the landslide overnight. At 9pm, police officers were deployed in Palchan and Bahang to stop the movement of vehicles.
Big rocks are falling from the hill at the slip point between Nehru Kund to Kulang.
The risk has been increased by falling rocks in different locations.
As soon as receiving information about the landslide, BRO began to clear the road to restore traffic during the night. But the restoration had to be stopped due to falling rocks.
