Care Optics adds: “Cholesterol can be prevented with a good diet, good hydration and exercise.
“A healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables will provide you with antioxidants, lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamins C and E, which lowers blood fats, pressure in the veins and the ability to form into a blood clot.
“Trying to avoid red meats, drinking at least 1.5 liters of water daily and getting in the habit of exercising, will also help lower your cholesterol and improve your health.”
The NHS also recommends quitting smoking and drinking less alcohol.
