Here’s why Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle had to wear veils at the Queen’s funeral
King Charles III, along with his sons William and Harry, and their wives Princesses Kate and Meghan Markle and other family members attended the ceremony together, following the Queen’s casket procession. from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall on Wednesday, where troops are scheduled to be stationed until the funeral and burial on Monday, September 19, 2022.
Both Duchesses are subtly dressed according to the dress code. They wear the corresponding black, which is believed to be the official color code for the funeral. Also noticed, is the fact that they both wear veils, mounted on top of them, a formal royal headdress.
According to reports, royal women are expected to wear the traditional black veil at funerals.
According to Independent.co.uk, they are known as “mourning veils”, as they symbolize grief and suggest that the wearer is in mourning. Black lace is also considered practical as it allows the wearer some privacy to express their emotions.
Female members of the royal family were also spotted wearing veils at Prince Philip’s funeral, in April 2021.
