EA shared some financial results yesterday, and these include a slide that lists the company’s Fiscal Year 2023 “Title”. On top of that are some of the titles we expect to release this year, such as Madden NFL 23, NHL 23, and a New Need For Speed game. However, that’s where the known quantity ends, save for next EA Sports PGA Tour delayed to early 2023because Q4, covering the period from January 2023 to March 2023, contains four unknowns: Primary IP, Partner Title, Rework, and Sports Title.
EA noted on the slide that these four titles scheduled for Q4 of Fiscal Year 2023 “have yet to be publicly revealed,” which is why the names of those games aren’t listed on the slide. However, those unknowns make us think, and theorize, what they might be.
Here’s what we think those four unknown EA games could be:
Let’s start with the easiest possible one: Redo. It should be EA Motive’s Dead Space remake, right? Revealed less than a year ago in July 2021develop team Revealing new details about the remake, including the desire to not have a loading screen. Since then, Motive has hosted many behind-the-scenes of the game, with the most recent one occurring in MarcH. There, The team revealed a new look at Dead Space Remake gameplay and teased an early 2023 release.
Early next year should be good in that Q4 FY2023, considering that’s the period from January 2023 to March 2023, right? On top of that, EA hasn’t revealed any other remakes they have in the works. There may be rumors of some, but in terms of confirmed remakes (and it would be odd if an unconfirmed remake would release in early 2023 before the Dead Space remake, in my opinion), Dead Space is the only one.
Continue, what is possible sports title to be? Game informant editor Brian Shea predicted it could be a new UFC title. He said that EA’s UFC franchises typically operate on a two-year cycle, or at least for the past four years. with 2020’s EA Sports UFC 4 being the most recent in the series. Two years from 2020 will be 2022, right? However, if EA had followed its two-year cycle, we would have probably seen EA Sports UFC 5 on the slide somewhere in this year’s release but alas, it’s not there.
With that in mind, the early 2023 release will make the most sense for a new UFC title. Perhaps the game had a short internal lag due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, or maybe the team just needed more time. Despite that, among EA’s sports category, saw a big change yesterday after The publisher revealed that they will no longer produce FIFA-branded football gamesUFC makes the most sense for the Q4 FY23 window.
Next? Probably the biggest unknown: partner title. Honestly, this could be anything really. A partner title may imply an agreement that EA has made with a third-party studio to publish a game. The most famous example of this for EA is the relationship with Josef Fares’ Hazelight, that’s the studio behind A Way Out and Game Awards 2021 Game of the Year, lost two. With It Takes Two just released last year, it seems highly unlikely that Hazelight has another game ready for Q4 FY23.
That leaves the door wide open: the partnership could actually be with any studio, so further speculation doesn’t make much sense. However, I personally hope EA has contracted a studio to remake SSX Tricky because god, why can’t I play that game on modern consoles these days?
Last but certainly not least is the main IP header. I feel pretty confident saying this will Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, the sequel we already know is in the works. Mind you, the game may have a different title as the actual name of the game has not been confirmed, but Fallen Order 2 has a great take on it so we’ll stick with it until when the EA says something different.
The first Command failed was released in 2019, so an early 2023 release means Respawn Entertainment will have more than three years to develop this sequel. Plus, Fallen Order is a great platform to go next. The battle doesn’t need a full revamp – maybe just some tweaks here and there – and the Star Wars universe makes picking iconic locations easy when there are so many. Plus, Fallen Order’s story made it clear where a sequel could go.
With Star Wars Celebration in mind, we’re betting Fallen Order 2 gets a lot of reveal there, and we’re hoping and pushing all our fingers that Respawn says they’re aiming for release sometime between January 2023 and March 2023 (because that means my prediction is right but more importantly it means we will soon be playing what will probably be a Star game Great Wars).
Of course, this primary IP could really be anything – Respawn is actually working on two other Star Wars games too – but EA doesn’t really have anything publicly revealed, other than Falling Order 2. While we wait to see if this prediction is correct, read about what we want to see from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2.
