“He was snoring on the way down”

Carl Froch sheds light on what his incredible rematch against George Groves on May 31, 2014 in London was like for him and how he sees it as his final battle.

‘The Cobra’ has been retired for more than eight years now, with his second fight against Groves by far the biggest of his career, defending his WBA and IBF super middleweight titles in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.

Speaking on William Hill’s Stripped Podcast, Froch talked about that pivotal moment:

“You’ve come to a point in boxing where your legacy is as secure as when I hit the box at Wembley in front of 80,000 people and I took out Groves and it was a fight full of hatred, I had nothing left to give. do. You are at the top of the mountain and all you can do is go down the other side.

He’s out in the cold, sparko, sleeping, don’t worry about it. I even heard him snoring as he went down.

One more month until I turn 37 and I know: ‘I’m going to retire here’. When I was training for battle, I knew this would be my last training camp, so I put everything in there. “

The match reportedly hit sales of around 900,000 PPV and was labeled ‘Fight of the Year’ by Ring Magazine for 2014.

As Froch’s last fight, he rose to the top, becoming a three-time super middleweight world champion and battling some of the best names in boxing like Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler.

Froch and Groves made up and even traveled the world together on tour, similar to how Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn did.

In the same podcast Froch also talks about Anthony Joshua and the ‘problem’ the former heavyweight champion now faces.
