Eddie Hearn attacked Frank Warren, the promoter of his colleague.
The head of Matchroom Boxing has stated that Warren, who fronts Queensberry and is Hearn’s advertising rival in the UK, thinks more about the Matchroom business – founded by Barry, Eddie’s father in 1979 – rather than his own business.
Matchroom has a broadcasting deal with global streaming platform DAZN, while Warren is the only boxing producer on BT Sport in the UK.
Hearn believes it’s been a decades-long obsession for 70-year-old Warren, as the 43-year-old prepares to expand into even more territory. after making a deal with Abu Dhabi to box there. Talking to iFL TVHearn says:
“Some people just focus on us and me and unfortunately for Frank, he’s been there for over 10 years.
I haven’t paid rent with that in mind for 12 or 13 years and I’m a pleasant tenant, but I guess I’m not leaving the brain any time soon. “
Hearn’s comments come after Warren asserted that his rivals have come out of the heavyweight picture, despite being a cheerleader for the two-time former champion. Anthony Joshua, who was knocked out by Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch in Saudi Arabia last month.
He added:
“I still believe we have the biggest draw in the tournament [in the shape of Anthony Joshua]. If he’s not the most drawn in the tournament, he’s the one with the second biggest draw in the tournament.
We also work with Dillian Whyte, we have a mandatory challenger for [IBF] world heavyweight title Filip Hrgovic, [Frank’s] probably forgot that too, and even Zhilei Zhang.
We have Derek Chisora that is still growing, we have Dempsey McKean, the top 10 in the world, and we’ve invested a lot in heavyweight. “
