“He has to get past Spence and that’s not going to happen”

Via Chris Williams: Jermell Charlo says Terence Crawford still needs to get past Errol Spence and Jaron Ennis at 147 before he can start talking about going up to 154 to challenge him.

IBF/WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Charlo said Crawford has not fought the same type of opponent as him in his career.

Although Crawford is undisputed at 140, he has not fought an opponent of Jermell’s caliber (34-1-1, 18 KOs).

Before Crawford could think about messing with Charlo, he had a big test against IBF/WBA/WBC champion 147-lb Spence, and Jermell said he wasn’t going to win that bout. He also thinks Crawford won’t beat Boots Ennis either.

Crawford will face 154-lb WBO champion Brian Castano this Saturday night in an undisputed championship match on Showtime at Dignity Health Sports Arena in Carson, California.

“The first time he had to get past Errol Spenceand that’s not going to happen,” said Jermell Charlo Fighthype about Terence Crawford wanting to fight him in 2023.

We don’t even know if Crawford can negotiate a fight with Spence, try beating him to get all the marbles. Crawford is the B side of the equation against Spence, and if he tries to reach parity in the negotiations, he will be left with a bunch of airs.

Spence will try in the negotiations, but if that doesn’t happen he’ll go up to 154. Crawford can always stay and fight whoever wins three of Spence’s titles after he’s vacated they. However, it will be a while before Crawford can fight everyone.

“He’s a tough fighter; He’s from Omaha. We know about him; He’s a dog, he can fight and he can walk,” Charlo went on to say about Crawford.

“When we compare opposition, is his opposition close to our opposition? Absolutely not. So I can’t even look at him as if he’s done anything in boxing.

“I mean, he won the world title at 140,” Charlo said of Crawford. “He won undisputedly, which is great, but at 154 you are talking about knocking me down and beating me and all this. I’m great with that, that’s anything.

“They are fighting on ESPN, and their protest is not the same as our protest. We’re in the big leagues. Crawford doesn’t mean asshole. He’s not in my weight class. He’s doing 147.

“He can’t beat anyone there. Jaron Ennis, he can’t even fuck with him. How did he come and talk about taking down someone like me? It is anything. They only do this for advertising and influence.

“I don’t know about Canelo. I am not his man or his manager. I don’t know anything about him,” said Jermell when asked if Canelo Alvarez should trigger the rematch clause in his contract to force a second fight with Dmitry Bivol after losing to him Saturday night. before or not.

“If he does rematch, he should fight at 168,” Jermell said of Canelo.
