HC asks Mumbai civic body to accept resignation of Rutuja Latke, Assembly bypoll candidate of Uddhav’s party | India News
MUMBAI: Bombay High Court on Thursday ordered the Mumbai civil service to accept the resignation of Rutuja Latkecandidate of ‘Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray‘party for the upcoming Andheri East conference.
A detachment bench of Judges Nitin Jamdar and Sharmila Deshmukh indicate the use or non-use at the discretion of Brihanmumbai City Corporation (BMC) Commissioner in making the decision to resign in this case is “arbitrary”.
The bench directs the authority of the BMC to accept the resignation and issue the appropriate letter by 11 a.m. Friday.
This will pave the way for Latke to submit her nomination for the by-election on Friday.
“She (Latke) is your (BMC) employee… You should help her,” the court said.
Early in the day, Latke’s advice Vishwajeet Sawant told the court that she was a clerk and that no fees or requests were pending.
The last day to submit nominations for the November 3 by-election is October 14. The postponement was necessary due to the death of Latke’s husband and incumbent MLA Ramesh Latke.
Uddhav Thackeray’s faction on Wednesday alleged that Rutuja Latke is being pressured by a group led by Maharashtra Minister Eknath Shinde to contest their ticket. Thackeray factions also allege political pressure on the Mumbai civil service to delay Latke’s resignation as their employee to avoid her candidacy. However, the BMC’s IS commissioner Chahal dismissed any political pressure.
