A big-budget adaptation of developer Naughty Dog’s popular PlayStation title – coincidentally, our top pick for The best video games of the 2010s – HBO’s The Last of Us TV show will also include elements of the sequel, Our Last 2and sometimes “greatly deviated” from the source material, presenter Neil Druckmann has said.
HBO’s official synopsis for the series is as follows: “[The Last of Us] takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a tough survivor, is hired to get Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of the oppressive quarantine. What begins as a small job soon turns into a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as the two must cross America and depend on each other for survival.
Mandalorian himself, Pedro Pascal, is playing the role of Joel on the show, along with his co-worker Game of Thrones alumnus Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Merle Dandridge, Nick Offerman, Gabriel Luna, Storm Reid, Anna Torv and Nico Parker have all been confirmed to participate. Meanwhile, The Last of Us’s original voice actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who voice Joel and Ellie, will also appear in some slots.
There is no confirmation yet on how many seasons HBO is planning on this series. However, Baker provided a vague window into what “three, four seasons” was needed to match the game’s story pacing at an appropriate pace – rather than limiting the story to one season rush. rush.
“I think, in stages, you can tell this story much more effectively, because trying to condense that 16 hour experience into [a few] now it’s not possible…it goes through the point of distillation, descending,” Baker said in an interview with GameSpot (opens in a new tab). “I think it’s possible to do this in phases and go, ‘We’re going to do this, say, three or four seasons’ and maybe it’s almost 1:1 [the story of the game] offers a great opportunity for more people to experience it. “
HBO has mentioned “future seasons” beyond the original first season, though any continuation may depend on the success of season one. In any case, we’ve put together all you need to know about TV show The Last of Us on a dedicated page, which we’ll update as we roll out the series on January 15.
