It might start with bumping into a zombie on a regular scavenger hunt, but the more you wander around in the dark, the more you find yourself fending off the affections of an entire pack. Before long, you’ll be using every weapon at your disposal to sever your apocalyptic love in a glorious light.

When I sit down to watch a laid-back romantic comedy, a part of me hopes for an airport run. It’s a way that is sure to make me sob, and there’s something cozy about it. I also often find myself hoping for that glow, even though it doesn’t make me cry. It’s exhilarating and often feels like an impromptu cinematic setting that I can tell my friends about.
The success of State of Decay 2 entices me even more, because it’s a constant reminder that this is not a one person story. It’s an entire community, and dying while scavenging can send them into disarray. That means another survivor is running scavenging, which could lead to more apocalyptic campfire stories, and that’s what the game is about. The goal list is filled with chores that can feel monotonous, but it leaves you with the perfect space for an unexpected cute meat dish that can change everything.
