I’m a big fan of game animation. I’ll play anything that looks like it’s lovingly hand-drawn and reward points if the animation doesn’t look good. crocodile later was one of the games I chose for that reason it was the goofy crocodiles in the trailer and screenshots of the original game that caught my attention. The animation is definitely great, but one thing I didn’t expect was how funny and incredibly captivating this point-and-click adventure was.
Alligator New York City (that’s its legal name) is bustling with activity. There are crocodile sellers, alligator musicians, alligators hanging out their windows, walking on the sidewalks, relaxing in the park – there is so much going on that you want to click on everything and everyone. No kidding, there are 100 crocodiles in this game, of which 30 will have mini games for you to play. It’s little game heaven here.
Scaling your chin and getting engrossed in the mini-games of the city’s reptilian dwellers is important because your ultimate goal is to solve a city-wide reptilian conspiracy. Your role is as one of the PIs hired by an adorable crocodile guy named Pat who will bring your attention to this insidious plot.
As with any mystery, you’ll switch back and forth between characters as you investigate, and thanks to the game’s wacky character design, tracking who’s who after talking to the 99th alligator never a chore. I remember exactly who Nana Rue was because of her bright purple hair, flashy fur coat, and the fact that she hit my ass in the Old Maid. Shiny Ricky? Oh yeah, he’s a scammer with a red cap, white tank top, and cheap gold wristwatch. Tall Jared is a tall alligator and I’ll always remember who ‘Knife’ is because he’s basically Yakuza Majima’s best boy in crocodile form.
But yeah, I started Later Alligator because of the cool animation, and stayed because of the weird alligators and bad puns.
