England captain Harry Kane has sent his best wishes to Pele, as the football legend is said to be in hospice care.

82 years old was switched to palliative treatment after chemotherapy no longer yielded the expected results as he battled colon cancer, according to the Brazilian daily Folha de S.Paula.

When asked about the news, Kane said: “First of all, we send our best wishes to him and his family.

“He’s been an inspiration in our game, an extraordinary footballer and an extraordinary person.”

Asked about the advice Pele gave him, in which he urged the Tottenham striker to never believe he is the best player in the world and to keep learning, Kane said: “Hear the words. That word from him is really special to me.

“And I’ve always felt like I’m a learner and will continue to learn for the rest of my career, so he offered his advice.

“Of course, very sad to hear that, but we wish him all the best, not just me but England.”

Folha de S.Paula reported that Pele was only treated for symptoms such as pain and shortness of breath.

The newspaper said he had swelling all over his body and had heart problems when he was hospitalized earlier this week, a detail previously reported by ESPN Brasil.

Pele is taken to hospital in Sao Paolo on Tuesday to evaluate his cancer treatment after he had the tumor removed from his colon in September 2021.
