The month of Saawan falls during the monsoon season and sees one of the three prominent Teej festivals – Hariyali Teej. This year, Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on July 31, 2022. Two other Teej festivals taking place during the months of Sawan and Bhadrapada are – Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej. Hariyali Teej is celebrated by women across northern Indian states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and even Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Women mark this day by seeking blessings from Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for a happy married life.

Hariyali Teej 2022 – Meaning of the Festival:

Hariyali Teej commemorates the union or Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, also known as Teej Mata on this day. Women worship happy married life and happy family. ‘Hariyali’ means ‘green tree’, so green is the color of the festival. It refers to the period when Indian farmers sowed seeds. Devotees welcome the monsoon into this festival.

Hariyali Teej 2022 – How Teej is Honored (Customs and Traditions):

On this day, women wear new green traditional clothes, wear green bracelets and smear mehendi on their hands. Many women also place swings in their homes, and listen to folklore about Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, along with singing and dancing to traditional Teej songs. Married women visit their parents on this day, who give them Sindhara – a basket full of sweets, bracelets and gifts.

1.Ghevar:
