“Let me record that matters concerning real estate sector became the topic of this forum, Rera. Before rera, you already have a remedial mechanism for consumers… If I was also an affected party, I would have been on the shopping forum. I will go here and there, then to the court. But let’s resist the temptation of trying to solve another forum’s problem through a mechanism,” Puri said while speaking at the CAC meeting.
His comments come a few weeks after the Department of Consumer Affairs headed by Piyush Goyal held a stakeholder meeting to identify the problems consumers face in the real estate sector even years after Rera went into effect.
Ministries are meant to work together and coordinate with each other in government work, rather than working for purposes that cross each other and make their differences public. Such circumstances do not help government operations and should be avoided.
According to the ministry, while the number of consumer commission complaints has decreased after Rera, 10% of all claims with these commissions are related to the real estate sector. The consumer kit also established a panel to propose model clauses in builder-buyer contracts to protect the interests of homebuyers.
Puri said that if consumer forums were to function like this, there would be no need for Rera. He also said that it should be seen that issues related to specific areas raised on forums are created for a specific purpose and that is also due to an act of Parliament like Rera. He added that they won the legal case for Rera. “Now let’s not try to undermine it by saying that other forums can do it too. it,” said the Union minister.
