Happy Saver On Course for BC Classic Start

It looks like there will indeed be an eight pitch for the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).

After a patch is applied to Happy Saver On November 2, coach Todd Pletcher said Thursday morning that he expects his 5-year-old son Super savings to run in the 1 1/4 final of the Breeder’s Cup on Saturday at Keeneland.

“He had a good morning,” Pletcher said after watching Happy Saver jog. “So far, so good for running.”

Owned by Wertheimer et Frere, Happy Saver is a 30-1 outsider in Classic. Although the thoroughbred son of the funny mare Happy Week hasn’t won a place in the rankings since the 2020 Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1), he has a very stable 5-5-1 difference after 12 games to start his career. Including five runner-up finishes that is a second in the 2021 JCGC.

He made $1,198,100 and is fourth behind Classic starters Hot Rod Charlie and Rich Strike on October 1 Lukas Classic (G2) at Churchill Downs.
