Haney denies giving Kambosos tips before Teofimo Lopez fights

Via Sam Volz: Devin Haney denied that he helped George Kambosos Jr by giving him helpful advice before his fight last November against unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.

Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) told the media last week that Haney is a “mouse, one “information provider “ by revealing his fellow American is Teofimo by giving him advice before he challenges Teo to a duel.

Kambosos Jr defeated Teofimo by deciding to split 12 rounds in that fight by pushing at a pace so fast that it ended up leaving the injured, tired-looking champion.

If Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) didn’t give Kambosos the advice he said he did, then why has he been on the subject continuously since last week? Will Kambosos Jr. create this out of thin air, come up with something untrue to gain an advantage? If so, why such a small thing?

Sure, the Kambosos could dream of something more important than getting advice from Haney.

“Oh my god no. I didn’t give any advice. We’re not friends like that,” Haney told Sports artist KO when asked if he would give Kambosos advice to beat Teofimo Lopez before their fight last November.

It probably didn’t matter if Haney gave Kambosos a tip or not. It’s in the past now, and Kambosos exhausting it for a mental advantage against Haney doesn’t seem to work as he remains fairly focused and ignores attempts to sabotage him.

If the Kambosos camera angle is trying to make Haney look ugly so that fewer boxing fans will support it then it’s a waste of time.

Casual boxing fans will clearly see all this background chatter from Kambosos, and they will only pay attention to what happens inside the ring on Sunday. For fans of heavyweight boxing feel that Kambosos is desperate and trying to get anything to try and make Haney lose strength.

“They know the skill set I bring to the table,” Haney said, saying that Teofimo believes he will beat the Kambosos.

“Teo has been there with George, and he knows what skills he has to offer. He was there with me too. We had fought before, so he knew what was going to happen.

“I went after those guys,” Haney said when asked if he would start calling Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia if he won Sunday over the Kambosos. “I called for those battles, and I said I wanted to make those battles happen.

“Nothing has changed. I want to make the biggest game happen, whether it’s 135 or 140. We just want to see. My main focus is getting past George Kambosos right now.

“I do not take him lightly. I didn’t look past him. I trained hard. This is the Super Bowl of boxing, I’m in and I’m excited about it.
