Hackers may have obtained 190GB of sensitive data from Samsung


Some confidential Samsung data has been leaked due to a suspected cyberattack. On Friday, South America’s Lapsus$ hacking group uploaded a trove of data it claimed came from the smartphone maker. was one of the first publications to report on the incident.

Among other pieces of information, the collective says it has obtained the bootloader source code for all recent Samsung devices, in addition to code related to highly sensitive features such as biometric authentication and encryption on the device. The leak also allegedly included confidential data from Qualcomm. The entire database contains about 190GB of data and is being actively shared in a torrent file. If the leaked contents are accurate, they could cause significant damage to Samsung.

During that incident, Lapsus$ said it obtained about 1TB of confidential data from the GPU designer, including, team statement, schematics, and driver source code. The collective asked NVIDIA to open source its drivers and remove the crypto mining limit from its RTX 30-series GPUs. It’s unclear what, if need be, Lapsus$ did for Samsung. The group has previously said that its actions were not politically motivated.
