Gujarat landslide to give BJP the upper hand in upper House | Gujarat Election News
Currently, BJP has eight and Conference there are three members in Rajya Sabha from Gujarat. BJP will retain three Upper House seat from the state when it becomes available in August next year.
The party will win two more seats out of four in the biennial election in April 2024 and one more out of four seats to be elected in June 2026, bringing the party’s total seats. This takes up 11 seats from the state. Such an achievement is rare in the larger states, especially when more than one seat from one state is voted on.
On the other hand, the National Assembly’s vote count in Himachal will allow the party to get one of three seats from the state in Rajya Sabha in April 2024 before the next parliamentary elections and a second election two years later.
Currently, all three members from Himachal Pradesh in the Senate are from the BJP. It includes party chairman JP Nadda, who will retire in April 2024. The fate of the third seat from the state will only be decided by the next council as vacancies will arise there in 2028.
The overall composition of the Senate will not change effectively next year as only 10 seats are left vacant due to members retiring. The notable change is expected to happen only in April 2024 (around the next parliamentary election) when 56 seats will be elected in a biennial election.
Currently, the current strength of Rajya Sabha is 239 as there are six vacant seats (four by J&K and two nominated) in the 245th House of Representatives. BJP is the largest party with 92 MPs, followed by the National Assembly (31 members). MP), TMC (13 MPs), and DMK and AAP with 10 each.
Currently, Himachal, Delhi, Punjab, Telangana and Uttarakhand are the five states where a single party has all the seats of the Rajya Sabha, if states with a single MP RS are not counted.
