Gujarat Hospital’s Before And After As PM Visits Bridge Tragedy Survivors
Four new water coolers were set up overnight at a government hospital in Morbi ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, but there was no water in at least one of them. Supplies are not connected – a stark example of the haste in transporting spruce trees after 130 people died in Sunday’s bridge collapse and many injured were brought here.
After NDTV’s report, the hospital’s board of directors connected the cooler to the water source.
Prime Minister Modi met several injured people in a newly painted area. NDTV has learned that patients are transferred to new beds with new, selected linens and brief notice of prior interaction.
“This is all for show. This water cooler wasn’t here before,” said a woman with the same patient. Another woman said the hospital lacked basic facilities. “The workers only moved in after the Morbi bridge collapse victims were brought here and it was assumed that Narendra Modi would visit.”

The previously empty ground floor area had been cleaned up and new beds were installed. Some of the new papers bear the stamp of a hospital in Jamnagar, 160 kilometers from Morbi.
Ground reports show that new IV drip counters appear next to each overnight bed. Two of the eight patients initially brought here were transferred to another area before the Prime Minister arrived.
Outside, at least 40 workers worked through the night repainting the outside of the hospital, in addition to decorating inside areas where Prime Minister Modi met the wounded. The toilet also has new tiles.
