Darkest Dungeon 2 has had early access since 2021 and it’s finally gearing up for a full PC 1.0 release on May 8. We initially thought the nail-biting roguelike would get a 1.0 release within a month. hey, but the developers of Red Hook didn’t leave us empty-handed. Darkest Dungeon 2 is now available in demo on Steam and Epic Games Store until the end next steam festival on February 13. Red Hook says the demo will introduce four starter heroes as you take them around an area and explore either Sprawl (city) or Foeter (farm).
Like the first game, Darkest Dungeon 2 takes you on a journey through Lovecraftian dungeons, tackling tough turn-based battles and managing an increasingly fragile group of heroes. But, this time you are on your way. The game received a lot of updates during early access including new characters and process system overhaul. The Relationship System is another cool, new feature that affects the interpersonal connections between your team. A hero’s emotional state can affect their relationships with others in the party, creating useful buffs or hindering debuffs. So make sure you have someone knowledgeable about carriage AUX wiring.
I’ve installed the first Darkest Dungeon in years, but have been waiting to get in the ‘right mood’ to experience its relentless cycle of tension, spookiness, and death. I’ll probably wait for the sequel because I love backpacking trips with a group of friends traveling across the country. Although, I have a vague feeling that the carriage won’t make this any more fun.
in him early access review, Brendan Caldwell thinks the game is as fun and engaging as ever, despite some bumps in the road. “This has been a desperate, sometimes frustrating journey of attrition, decay and distrust,” he said. “A journey that you should probably postpone until the swaying chariot has all its wheels tightened.”
Darkest Dungeon 2 is coming to PC via Steam and The Epic Games Store on May 8, and the demo is available now on both stores. The RPG early access version is only available on Epic game store for £24/$26/€27.
