Cannes Film Festival 2024 jury chairman Greta Gerwig may not have played the main toy in her 2023 blockbuster, Barbie doll, but there’s no denying that her wardrobe while out on the French Riviera in recent days would make even the most fashionable 11.5-inch doll jealous.
Gerwig is the first American female director to chair the prestigious film festival’s jury (celebrating its 77th anniversary) and at age 40, she is the second youngest jury president in the festival’s history.
Cannes is a festival famous for style, with countless red carpets and cruises where stars can see and be seen in their fashion best. Gerwig and her stylist, Karla Welch, rose to the challenge of finding time abroad.
“She is [jury] Mr. President, so we can either follow some kind of rule or just do what we want—and we’re kind of doing both!” Welch said fashion magazine about their cooperation.
