Ryan Cooper Written that “at a time when Democrats are hungry for leadership – especially some sort of strategy to deal with a lawless and extremist Supreme Court – he is missing in action.” That’s right, Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema teamed up with Republicans to deliver key measures. But the president refused to release Executive order may enact common measures such as student loan cancellation and many other policies part of a derelict approach as national crises deepen. Recent events have dramatized Biden’s downward spiral. Biden’s slow and ill-considered response to the Supreme Court’s long-awaited Dobbs decision that overturned the Roe v. Wade case highlights the importance of stakes and setbacks.

The dire outlook was underscored by arrogance towards progressive activists.

Consider this statement from White House communications director Kate Bedingfield last weekend as she responded to widespread criticism: “Joe Biden’s goal in responding to Dobbs is not to please some activists always out of line with the mainstream of the Democratic Party. It’s to help women in danger and assemble a broad coalition to protect women’s right to choose right now, just as he assembled such a coalition to win the war. 2020 campaign”. The traditional response to such arrogance from the White House to the incumbent’s party base is to grin — or more likely, grimace — and suffer. But it is a grave error for the individuals and organizations involved. Serving as promoters of bad policies and bad politics is hardly wise.

Poll released by the New York Times on Monday highlighted that most of Mr Biden’s party does not want him to run for re-election, “with 64% of Democratic voters saying they would prefer a new standard-bearer in the presidential campaign.” system in 2024.” And, “only 26% of Democratic voters say the party should abandon him.” A former ambassador to Portugal appointed by President Obama, Allan Katz, has strong case for Biden to declare now that he will not run for re-election. Writing for Newsweek with the headline “President Biden: I’m Begging You – Don’t Run In 2024. Our Country Needs You To Give Up,” Katz suggested that such an announcement from Biden would eliminate a bird Seagulls from the necks of Democrats facing tough midterm elections. In short, to beat as many Republicans as possible this fall, Biden should be considered a one-term president who won’t seek the Democratic nomination in 2024. Why? promote this goal? The #DontRunJoe The campaign our team at RootsAction launched this week offers explanation: “We feel compelled to intervene at the moment because while there is a debate in the mainstream media about whether Joe Biden should run for re-election, that discussion is too narrow and lack of content – mainly focused on his age or the number of the latest polls.

“We oppose Biden running in 2024 because his job performance as president. He has been shown to be incapable of effective leadership for the policies the people at work and the planet desperately need, including the policies he promised as a candidate. “It’s no secret that Republicans are very likely to win the House of Representatives this November, possibly by a large margin. And the neo-fascist GOP also has a good chance of winning the Senate, although that could be very close.

Defeating the Republicans would be thwarted to the extent that progressive and liberal forces circle political wagons around an unpopular president to defend the unacceptable status quo. While voters must be encouraged to support Democrats – the only way to defeat Republicans – in this fall’s key congressional races, that doesn’t mean signing on to the extension mandate. Biden’s White House lease.

RootsAction emphasized: “While we were announcing Don’t run campaign Joe Now, we are calling on progressive, anti-apartheid, feminist and working-class activists to focus on defeating the right in this November’s election. Our full-scale launch will take place on November 9, 2022 – the day after that midterm election. “With all the bad news and negative polls about Biden in recent weeks, the madness of touting him for a second term has come into the spotlight. While the president insists that he planned to run for re-election, he left himself an exit by saying it would happen if he was in good health.

But what we should do is insist that – whatever his personal health may be – the health of the country comes first. This fall’s Democratic candidates shouldn’t be embarrassed to pretend they’re asking voters to back a scenario for another six years for President Biden. It’s time to create a base that can force Joe Biden to make a public announcement – preferably soon – that he will not provide support to Republican forces by trying to prolong his presidency for an additional four years.

A pledge to voluntarily retire at the end of your first term will boost Democrats’ chances of winning a stronger and more progressive ticket into 2024 – and will convey that Democratic candidates President and President Biden are not one and the same.
