Govt weighs RT-PCR for flyers from China, 4 other Asian nations | India News


AHMEDABAD/NEW DELHI: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Saturday said the government is considering implementing RT-PCR Mandatory test for passenger to India from China, Japan, south Korea, Singapore and Thailand in the context of the increasing number of Covid-19 infections in these countries.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research, Ahmedabad (NIPER-A) convening in Gandhinagar.
Mandaviya later tweeted that at Delhi International Airport, sample testing for passengers arriving from China, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Japan, South Korea and several other countries had begun on Saturday.
“Filling in the ‘Air Suvidha’ form to declare a health condition will be mandatory for passengers coming from these countries… After landing in India, they will have their temperature checked and we will. ordered them to be quarantined if they tested positive or had a fever when they arrived in the country,” Mandaviya said.
500 random international flyers being tested at IGI

Mandaviya praises the work of Indians in developing Covid shots

He also praised the work of Indian scientists in developing a Covid vaccine. “During a meeting, the Prime Minister asked if we could develop a vaccine. One young scientist said it was possible, but he soon stopped. When prompted, he said that with the existing norm, it would take four years. We were shocked that a lot of research was stalled because of bureaucracy,” says Mandaviya. “We asked the researchers to go ahead and assure them of any support. Therefore, we gave the first human indigenous vaccination on January 19, 2021.”
