Every mobile phone has a unique 15-digit IMEI number, which is considered the unique ID of the device.
There have been concerns about the inability to track a lost mobile phone due to the presence of fake devices with the same IMEI on the telecommunications network.
The government has launched Central Device Identity Registration (CEIR) The project intercepts and tracks lost or stolen mobile phones and adds India’s Counterfeit Device Restriction (ICDR) system to limit the proliferation of such handsets.
Currently, there are only means of preventing stolen or lost phones on the portal.
The CEIR project is working to solve the problem of mobile phone loss by solving the problem of counterfeit devices.
With the new announcement, IMEI numbers of even imported devices will need to be registered on the ICDR system and obtaining an IMEI certificate will be mandatory for the import of mobile devices through ports of entry. different regard.

The ICDR system has been in operation since January 28, 2020. It can be accessed through the portal to register and generate an IMEI certificate without paying any fees.
The new system has replaced the old IMEI copying and duplication restriction system, operated and maintained by Mobile Standard Alliance of India (MSAI) – a private body.
MSAI is no longer allowed to register, generate or issue IMEI certificates and the government directly operates the system.
