GOP leader McConnell hospitalized after fall : NPR

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell is being treated at a local hospital after he fell at a hotel Wednesday night, according to a spokesman.
His spokesman said the 81-year-old senator from Kentucky fell after tripping at a local hotel.
“Tonight, Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner. He was taken to hospital for treatment,” McConnell spokesman Doug Andres said.
McConnell has been a childhood polio survivor, when he was diagnosed before a vaccine was developed. In 2018, he quote his personal battle as the driving force to eradicate the disease worldwide.
“I think outside the public health community there is an underestimation of how much effort and innovation needs to continue after an illness has hit the web,” McConnell said in a report from Roll Call. best. He warned that without continued support, “progress could be rapidly eroded.”
Now the Senate minority leader, McConnell was first elected in 1984 to the United States Senate. In 2018, he became the longest-serving Senate leader before losing that position in 2021.
