Google is reportedly rolling out a security tool to help users ask the search giant to delete results containing personally identifiable information (PII) and contact details. The feature was first announced at Google I/O in May. The new ‘About You Results’ section on the Google app will now allow users to request the company to remove search results containing their phone number, home address, email or other PII. You can access this feature by tapping on the profile picture on the Google app or by clicking the three-dot additional item menu that appears in the top-right corner of any search result.
The implementation of this feature is spot by 9to5Mac and users in Europe and the US are getting the new ‘Refer You Results’ tool. Users can track their requests from the security tool in the “All Requests” feed, where they can see the status as “Processing” or “Approved”. While requesting to remove information from the results, Google requires the user to disclose the reason they want the results removed through reply options including: It shows my personal contact information, it shows my contact with intent to harm me, it display other personal information, it contains illegal information, or it is out of date.
In April, Google updated its policies to include a requirement to delete personal information like a user’s phone number, email address, or physical address, in addition to things like bank accounts or Credit card numbers can be used for financial fraud.
According to the report, the security tool ‘Results about you’ has been discovered in Europe and the US and may be rolled out to more users in the future.
The company was previously stated that all removal requests will be carefully evaluated to avoid removal of relevant and useful information such as articles or public records on government websites or official sources.
According to Google’s removal policyusers can request the removal of confidential information including government identification numbers (IDs), such as US Social Security Numbers, Argentina Single Tax Identifiers, Brazil Cadastro de pessoas Físicas, Registration Numbers Korean permanent residence or China Permanent Resident Identification Card, bank account number, credit card number, Handwritten signature image, ID document image, high profile, limited and official , such as medical records, personal contact information (physical address, phone number and email address) and, confidential login information.
