Two years ago, the search giant first announced an improved operating system for TVs, Google TELEVISION. While improving the content discovery experience, Google TV was slow and didn’t really hit the target. Google has finally heard the complaints and is now releasing updates to address these issues.
In a recent community forum post, Google details all the new improvements that have been made to Google TV. Basically, there have been some performance and memory improvements, improving the overall user experience.
The home screen or the “For You” tab will load faster. Google says it’s done CPU improvements and some improvements to cache management, so the home screen takes less time to load after startup. What’s more, navigate on the home screen, whether you’re scrolling in one tab or switching to another.
Google says that smack consumption has been optimized, so Google TV now consumes less RAM than before. As a result, Live tabs load faster and animations while switching between tabs have been reduced.
To further optimize performance, image caching has been reworked, helping to reduce children’s profile loading times. Furthermore, Google has reduced the delay between loading the child’s profile and starting the app.
Coming to the memory improvements, Google has added a new “Free up memory” option that can be found in Settings. All you need to do is open the TV, go to Settings > System > Memory and select Free up memory.
Google doesn’t elaborate, but it says some fundamental changes ensure users are less likely to experience memory-related errors while installing new apps. Furthermore, a new automated process has been implemented that runs in the background and frees memory.
You’ll be able to experience these improvements starting today if you have a TV at home running Google TV. However, it may take some time for some of these changes to roll out to Chromecast alongside Google TV.
