Google relaxes COVID-19 rules for its US employees

Google delay Their employees have returned to the office a few times over the past year, but it seems the tech giant is really gearing up to welcome back workers this time. Based on CNBCThe company is easing some COVID-related duties as part of those efforts, including relaxing vaccine requirements for employees.

CNBC report Back in December, Google will be giving employees who don’t comply with its vaccine regulations by January 18th, unless they have a valid religious or medical exemption. The report also said those employees would eventually be fired if they continued to refuse injections. Google spokeswoman Lora Lee Erickson told the news organization the company denied the request last month, though they declined to discuss the reasoning behind the decision.

Based on an email from Google’s VP of Real Estate and Workplace Services David Radcliffe that CNBC achieved, the company is also eliminating testing requirements that also apply to vaccinated employees. It lifts face masks and social distancing requirements for vaccinated employees, with exceptions of its offices in Santa Clara County, where its headquarters are in Mountain View. That said, unvaccinated employees still must be approved to work in the office, and they will still have to wear masks and be tested regularly if they do arrive.

In addition to easing its COVID duties, Google will also reopen employee amenities, including fitness centers with massages, full shuttle service, multiple dining venues. more, as well as lounges and music rooms. Erickson said CNBC:

“We’re offering welcomers the opportunity to come to the office optionally to do so wherever we can safely, while allowing those who aren’t ready to continue working from home. Based on current conditions in the Bay Area, we’re pleased that our employees who choose to work now have access to more spaces and on-site services to work and connect with their colleagues. .”

Google still doesn’t have an exact date for returning to the office, but Radcliffe’s note says the company will begin the 30-day transition to a combined workweek plan if conditions continue to improve. Under the plan, employees will be required to visit the company’s office at least three times a week.
