According to a report, the Google Pixel smartphone could be assembled in India in the future. Apparently, Google has invited bids from manufacturers in India to account for a share of the company’s estimated annual Pixel smartphone production. Google is said to be planning to move Pixel phone assembly out of China as the COVID-19 lockdown in the country has affected production and supply chains. Another reason highlighted for this shift in the manufacturing sector is the growing geopolitical tension between China and the US. Google becomes the second largest company after Apple to view India as an alternative manufacturing hub.
One report according to information (via Reuters) quote a person with direct knowledge of the discussions saying that Google invited bids from manufacturers in India to create between 5,00,000 and 1 million Pixel smartphones. These numbers represent 10% to 20% of estimated annual production for Google’s Pixel smartphones.
The reasons cited for moving some Pixel smartphone production outside of China are the country’s COVID-19 lockdown which has disrupted supply chains and production as well as rising geopolitical tensions with America then. a trip of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan earlier this year.
It is not yet known which Pixel smartphones Google wants to assemble in India. The last flagships that Google sold in India were Pixel 3 series of smartphones. Google has ignored Pixel 4 series but brought mid-range rangers Pixel 4askip Pixel 5 as well as the Pixel 5a, and once again launching only the premium version Pixel 6a in the country that ignores the flag Pixel 6 complete series. The company is set to launch the Pixel 7 series on October 6.
Google has become the second largest manufacturer after Apple is considering moving part of its smartphone production to India.
